ISUMADECIP is the coordinator of two Master specialization programmes.
This Master’s programme aims to train future changemakers and leaders who are able to understand the integrated nature of the environmental subjects and to put into practice a number of methods and techniques for environmental management, in order to develop a sustainable human society.
The program provides, in particular, the opportunity for students to learn and apply:
knowledge and techniques needed to develop and implement environmental policies in order to achieve sustainable development;
analytical thinking that leads to environmental decisions;
specific case studies for Romania and Central and Eastern Europe.
The main objective of this specialization is to develop a programme focused on acquiring knowledge about various types of threats and risks present in society during normal activities and also in emergency cases.
The programme offers in particular the possibility for students to learn and apply systematic risk analysis as a tool for:
identifying the different types of risk, possible intervention types;
implementing risk reduction methods to prevent or to limit the negative effects on the population and the environment;
knowledge to develop risk assessment studies, safety reports, site reports.
Hands-on activities with the students of the Risk Assessment and Environmental Safety master programme
The students of the “Risk Assessment and Environmental Safety” master programme have the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities, thus improving their learning experience. In the practical exercises organized with the equipment available at the Research Institute for Sustainability and Disaster Management based on High Performance Computing (ISUMADECIP) the students use their theoretical knowledge on systematic risk analysis to identify different types of risk and the possible types of intervention. During the hands-on activities the students have the possibility to wear the chemical protection suits and they are given assignments involving identification of the dispersion source, using specific software and GPS devices. They also learn how to use specific equipment such as: thermal imaging camera for the detection of heated surfaces and search of missing persons in low visibility areas, IR thermal binoculars, metal detector, lighting balloon system, sonometer, device for the detection of people under rubble, respiratory protective equipment, water testing kit, radiation detectors, chemical detectors, inflatable tent - control post, decontamination tent, first aid kit, electric generator, portable weather station.
